I visited Beyond the Bowl on Sunday, March 25, with one of my friends. We have been on the hunt for good poke places in the Seattle in order to find our favorite! This particular restaurant was located in Lake City on Lake City Way. My friend and I ordered the large size of poke to share with three selections of fish. The portions of fish were perfect, and while you had to pay for some additional toppings each poke bowl included some standard ones. Unfortunately, they were out of brown rice, so we got half white rice and half salad with the house sauce.
For the desserts, we ordered “The Pot” and the Matcha Lava Cake. The Pot had a fun and unique presentation as it really had the appearance of a potted flower, but it was layered cheesecake with Oreo crumbs with milk tea on the side to “water” the plant. We really enjoyed this dessert both in looks and taste. The lava cake was perfect and extremely satisfying. The matcha taste was prominent and well-paired with the chocolate in a delicious combination. Every bite was decadent and rich. Both desserts had some fruits and a small piece of cake with mango creme, which added to the presentation and overall dessert.
The atmosphere was very modern and spacious, making it a comfortable place to hang around for awhile and chat with friends. Overall, the poke was not the best I have ever had, but it was good enough that I would come back. The desserts really made me fall in love with this place. I am looking forward to going back to try their udon options as well as their other desserts and interesting drinks!
